Q: What are caramels?

Different sources would put creation some 1000 years ago by the Arabs in its most primitive stage. By the 18th century we found already what we know as caramel today in places like Spain, Italy, France and England. Caramel came to the US as many other things, brought by immigrants and was cherished and enjoyed as an artisan product and later at industrial scale. Regretfully most caramel today in the US is produced on an industrial scale.


Q: How are Augustine Caramels made? Are Augustine Caramels Artisan?

All Augustine Caramels are done using artisan techniques. While there is not a standard definition of what artisan means we think involves some important items; our core knowledge to make caramel has been learned and practiced throughout generations, our caramels are made in limited quantities, we only use organic ingredients and we feel truly proud of what we do.


Q: What makes Augustine Caramels unique?

The recipes that you enjoy when tasting Augustine Caramels have roots in Europe and tried and tested many times in Latin America and the US to reach new heights using only organic ingredients.

We offer caramels that we personally enjoy and share with our family and friends, these caramels are made with care and are not intended to move into mass production but to remain artisan allowing us to assert its quality, freshness and overall, outstanding flavor.


Q: Are Augustine Caramels organic?

While all the ingredients that we utilize to make our products are organic, Augustine Caramels is not currently certified organic.


Q: Do you use artificial flavors or preservatives?

We do not use any artificial flavors, chemical additives or preservatives in our caramels. Instead our own ingredients such as fruit sugars act as natural preservatives.


Q: How long Augustine Caramels last and how should be stored?

We think caramels are to be enjoyed fresh and as we do not use any preservatives Augustine Caramels are best within first four weeks of delivery. To store Augustine caramels keep them at room temperature (between 65 and 75°F), away from direct sunlight, and protected from moisture. Augustine Caramels shelf life can be extended by refrigerating (up to 12 weeks) or freezing (up to six months). Bring back caramel to room temperature before eating.


Q: Are Augustine Caramels  nut, dairy, gluten and soy  free?

 No. Our caramels contain, milk and cream and some may contain nuts. While we do not use soy or gluten in our products there may be traces of those.


Q: Do Augustine Caramels  contain alcohol?

Augustine Caramels do not contain alcohol with exception of Sea Salt Vanilla and Vanilla Caramels that may have minimal traces of it.


Q: Do Augustine Caramels contain animal fats?

We use cream and milk in our products and those contain animal fats, but do not add any additional fats into caramel making.


Q: Are Augustine Caramel products Kosher?

No. Our caramels are not Kosher certified.


Q: What are the nutritional values of Augustine Caramels?

Caramels are high in calories, there is no way around it. Though we do not bring any ingredients that do not provide a special attribute to our caramels and we do not add extra fat, preservatives or additives as we do not need them to deliver a full flavor experience.

However, our intention is that Augustine Caramels be enjoyed as something special, a treat, a small desert, not as meal replacement.

At this time we only deliver to continental United States.


Q: How long does it take to deliver Augustine Caramels?

Delivery should take 1 to 3 business days. In summer as heat may affect caramel duration we ship from Monday to Thursday only. During winter (and depending on weather conditions in Spring and Fall) we ship Monday to Friday.
